The Student Union buzzed with curiosity on Nov. 7 as Wright State University students and postdocs filled the space with research posters, presentations and conversations at the Festival of Research, the annual showcase of new ideas and scientific discovery.
About 120 undergraduate, graduate students and postdocs from the College of Science and Mathematics took part, sharing their research through poster sessions and podium presentations.
“The event provides the opportunity for students and faculty to learn more about the research that is happening across the college, promoting the sharing of new knowledge across different disciplines,” said Steven Higgins, Ph.D., associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.
The Festival of Research also created valuable networking opportunities for both students and corporate partners. The event featured employer panel sessions that allowed students to ask questions about work opportunities and receive job-seeking tips directly from companies.
Along with giving students the opportunity to hone their presentation skills, one of the greatest benefits of the Festival of Research is the exchange of ideas.
“Wright State has definitely helped me along the way,” said Delaney Grant, a graduate biomedical sciences student who displayed her research on sustained peripheral nerve injury in military-relevant operational environment and the role of mitochondrial function. “A lot of the advisors and professors here are really helpful and provide a lot of great insight and advise.”
The festival concluded with an awards presentation with Wright State Provost Jim Denniston, Ph.D.
