Wright State University has once again been recognized for its commitment to military-connected students and their families with a Military Friendly School Silver ranking for 2026–2027.
The Silver ranking, awarded by Military Friendly — which rates colleges and universities on their commitment to military-connected students — reflects Wright State’s sustained support for programs, services and culture that extend beyond the classroom.
“This recognition reflects years of deliberate, sustained work across the university,” said Seth Gordon, Ph.D., director of Wright State’s Veteran and Military Center. “It belongs to every faculty member, staff member and student advocate who shows up for our military-connected community every day.”
At the heart of that effort is the Veteran and Military Center, which serves approximately 850 military-connected students each semester — including active-duty service members, veterans, reservists, spouses, dependents and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel.
Recognized as a national model, the VMC helps students navigate VA programs, federal Tuition Assistance and state aid, while also providing transition support, career-readiness resources and a dedicated community space on campus.
Wright State offers the Active Duty Military Undergraduate Scholarship, which covers tuition costs for courses approved for Tuition Assistance but not fully funded by it, and the WPAFB Graduate School Scholarship, available to base employees, reservists and their family members.
The VMC encourages military-connected students to take on leadership roles through service projects and campus initiatives.
Through the Military Community Advocates program, students build community, develop leadership skills and prepare for careers after graduation. The Veteran Student Champion program extends the university’s culture of support by training faculty, staff and students to better understand and serve military-connected learners.
“Our goal is to meet the needs of military-connected students and ensure they feel supported,” Gordon said. “The VMC is built on trust and a genuine sense of belonging. We work every day to be military friendly in both designation and practice.”
Wright State also provides a range of services to military-affiliated students, including:
- Flexible scheduling and online learning options
- Credit for prior military training and experience
- Priority registration
For students pursuing military commissions, the university is home to the Army ROTC Raider Battalion and Air Force ROTC Detachment 643.
The Military Friend Silver Award adds to Wright State’s growing list of distinction.
In 2025, the university was named a Best for Vets College by the Military Times, designated a Collegiate Purple Star campus by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, and the VMC earned an Excellence in Programming for Military-Connected Students Award from the National Veterans Leadership Foundation.
