High school students explore artificial intelligence at Wright State summer camp

Area high school students received a hands-on introduction to the future of technology during the AES AI Camp at Wright State University’s Raj Soin College of Business, where they explored how artificial intelligence is transforming industries and creating new career opportunities.

Sponsored by the AES Ohio Foundation, the one-day camp introduced students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science through interactive workshops and collaborative challenges. Participants explored the concepts behind AI and neural networks while building their own AI models.

Throughout the day, students like Hannah Sisco, a sophomore at Fairborn High School, worked together to develop AI-driven solutions to solve real-world problems.

“I’ve learned how different AIs can be used in different applications such as in healthcare and agriculture and things like that,” said Sisco.

John Dinsmore, Ph.D., professor of marketing and interim chair of the School of Supply Chain, Marketing and Management, led a session on AI and ethics. Because artificial intelligence is evolving so quickly, Dinsmore said the camp’s curriculum is changing just as fast.

“There’s a lot of new stuff versus last year, and so I think the content of this camp is going to evolve pretty rapidly over time,” he said.

At the conclusion of the camp, each student received a certificate recognizing their participation and newly developed AI skills.
