Active-duty artists share artwork at Wright State exhibit

Active-duty service members stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base shared another side of their experiences through “Active Duty Artists,” an exhibition at Wright State University’s Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries.

The exhibition, which ran from Aug. 25 through Sept. 17 in the Project Space Gallery, featured work created by military personnel assigned to the base. Presented in a variety of mediums, the pieces highlight the artists’ individual perspectives, creative practices and experiences beyond their professional duties.

Glen Cebulash, professor of art in Wright State’s School of Fine and Performing Arts, curated the exhibition.

“I was driving to Wright State one day and I thought there are probably a lot of artists on base that would like the opportunity to show,” said Cebulash.

The exhibition featured 14 active-duty artists and reflected Wright State’s connection to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the broader military community.

The Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The exhibition was sponsored in part by the Ohio Arts Council.
