Wright State University–Lake Campus students kicked off the Fall Semester by making connections, discovering campus resources and enjoying an afternoon of western-themed activities at the eighth annual Laker Lawn Party.

More than 45 local companies, community groups, Lake Campus departments and student organizations joined the signature event, giving students an opportunity to connect and learn about resources and involvement opportunities both on and off campus.

“The energy and engagement we saw from students this year was incredible,” said Sam Johnson, director of campus engagement and events. “Having so many campus and community partners in one place shows students just how many people are invested in their experience and success.”

Now in its eighth year, the Laker Lawn Party has become a fall tradition at the Lake Campus and an important part of welcoming students to a new academic year.

This year’s “Saddle Up for Success” theme brought a western twist to the afternoon, with activities including a mechanical bull and custom airbrush art.

Beyond the fun, the event serves an important purpose: bringing the people and resources available to students together in one place, making it easier for students to build connections early in the semester.

“My favorite part is that you can see the different student organizations and clubs that are on campus and find ways to get involved,” said Gracie Leach, a sophomore education major. “It brings students together and gives a sense of community to start the year off with.”

The Laker Lawn Party was part of Weeks of Welcome, a six-week series of programs and events designed to help students build relationships, get involved and connect to the campus community.
