Wright State’s Family Weekend brings Raider families together

Wright State University brought students and their families together Oct. 9–11 for Family Weekend, an annual event packed with activities, entertainment and opportunities to experience life as a Raider.

“This year we’ve elevated the experience,” said Courtney Laukitis, associate director of campus programs. “There’s a lot of great ways for families to spend time with their student.”

Festivities kicked off on Oct. 9, with music trivia, a library game night and a magic show in the Student Union Apollo Room. Families also cheered on the Wright State women’s volleyball team at the Nutter Center and attended a performance of “Decision Height” in the Creative Arts Center.

Saturday’s activities began with a fun run on the Quad, followed by a family brunch in the Student Union Atrium. Families also participated in friendly competitions throughout the day, including Family Feud, dominoes, cornhole, a euchre tournament and Epic Bingo in the Student Union Apollo Room, featuring more than $4,000 in prizes.

Paul Boyd, a sophomore cybersecurity major, spent the weekend with his family, including several younger brothers and sisters who made the nine-hour drive from Georgia to Dayton.

“One of my favorite hobbies to do on campus is rock climbing and yesterday I took them to the climbing gym,” said Boyd.

Beyond the scheduled events, families were encouraged to explore Wright State’s campus and surrounding community. Activities included bike rentals through Campus Recreation, walking the university’s trails and visiting the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries. Families could also explore nearby attractions, including the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
