A new look with a nod to the past: Wright State unveils redesigned basketball court

Wright State University basketball fans have something new to cheer about this season as the Raiders take the court at the Nutter Center on a newly installed playing surface featuring a fresh design and a tribute to the university’s athletic history.

The redesigned basketball court features graphics created by Wright State’s Office of University Communications and Marketing, including the return of the university’s familiar Viking Raider mascot.

On Oct. 28, a 15-person crew removed the old basketball court and installed the new floor in about five hours.

The playing surface consists of 225 individual pieces arranged in 15 rows of 15, with each piece weighing approximately 150 pounds. The sections are organized into three groups of five rows.

In addition to the new playing surface, the Nutter Center steps and several suites received fresh paint and new championship banners celebrating the achievements of Wright State’s athletic programs.

“I hope the players and the coaches really enjoy it,” said Joe Dick, director of facility operations at the Nutter Center.

Fans got their first look at the redesigned court on Nov. 2 when Wright State hosted the Air Force Falcons as part of the Stars, Stripes and Flight Classic.
