Wright State’s Center for Global Business and Research and Sogeti have combined forces to offer MBA students at Wright State University an enriching educational opportunity this spring in Paris, France. The program integrates academic studies with a professional and in-depth immersion in the European economy and business environment.
Dr. Riad A. Ajami, Ph.D. and Executive Director of the Center created the program to help develop business leaders who are comfortable crossing national and cultural boundaries. According to Ajami, “It’s one thing to gain on-the-job international business experience. It’s quite another to gain the necessary theoretical background and then analyze how the global environment affects the strategy of each student’s personal leadership effectiveness. You can’t be a successful business leader today or achieve the goals of world-class industries and services without a sound strategic foundation in international business.”
“We are honored to be partnering with the Global Business and Research program this year,” said Kelly Maroney, Director of Marketing for Sogeti USA. “Not only is this a way for Sogeti to engage in the education process, but it is also a way to start the conversation with local students who will likely become the next influencers in global business.”
The one-week program was held on the campuses of two leading French business schools, ESSCA and the Grand Ecole HEC (Graduate School of Management). One of the highlights of the program is a session at Capgemini Group, the parent firm of Sogeti. The Global Delivery Sales Leader for Sogeti, Raveen Mansharamani, discussed the firm’s global strategy and demonstrated how Sogeti, as a Dayton, Ohio-based enterprise effectively reaches global customers and achieves an ongoing competitive advantage in its global markets. “Sogeti balances localization and globalization extremely well and presents an interesting real-life case study of best practices in global business,” according to Ajami.
Cassi Ballinger, MBA student, said that seeing the logistics of international business first hand changed her perspective on effective global strategies. “It’s a little hard to picture the importance of factors like cultural differences until you experience them face-to-face. The learning I gained from this course will impact me throughout my career”. Jack Leopard, a recent MBA graduate called the experience an eye-opener. “The first-hand experience with company leaders from Midmark and Sogeti made the theory that we discuss in class come to life and gave us a more concrete, real world example of decision-making from a corporate perspective.”
