Greene County families visit Wright State for mass food distribution by The Foodbank

The Foodbank organized a mass food distribution at the Wright State University Nutter Center on Aug. 27, attracting 2,627 people and distributing thousands of 103,860 pounds of food.

Over 70 volunteers from CareSource, SICSA, Five Rivers Health Centers and Wright State men’s and women’s basketball teams distributed fresh produce, proteins, grains and pet food.

“I just think it’s always important to give back,” said Isaiah Williams, a redshirt freshman guard on the men’s basketball team who attended Beavercreek High School, just a few miles from Wright State’s Dayton Campus. “Growing up here, this community has treated me well, so why not return the favor?”

“I know that everybody is squeezed by high prices right now,” said Amber Wright, development director at The Foodbank. “If these groceries can help a family breathe easy and stretch until their next check, we consider that a win.”

The Foodbank distribution began just before 10 a.m. and continued until noon, serving 849 families during the more than two-hour event.
