During his 26 years as the athletics director at Wright State, Mike Cusack had stepped onto center court during halftime of a Raiders basketball game and shared the spotlight with community leaders, handed out awards to student-athletes and — as was about to happen now — taken part in the Hall of Fame induction of a legendary WSU sports figure.
Saturday afternoon at the Nutter Center — during the intermission of a back-and-forth game that Cleveland State would finally win, 72–68 — Cusack was being enshrined along with former Raiders basketball star DaShaun Wood and standout sidearm pitcher Joe Smith.
