In addition to being a fine collaboration between two of the Miami Valley’s most venerable institutions, the upcoming presentation of Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem” is the fulfillment of a family’s lifelong wish.
The institutions are the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Wright State University. The two brothers are members of the Lockhart family who’ve always hoped to work together on a project that would combine both their passions — history for Paul, music for Keith.
It will all culminate on the evenings of Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14, at the Schuster Performing Arts Center when Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra, will be in town to conduct what he calls “one of the great choral masterworks of the 20th century and perhaps all time.” Before each concert, his brother — a professor of history at Wright State and the 2014-15 Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research — will conduct talk-backs on the famous work.
