Wright State Physicians Orthopaedics will offer an educational session, “Arthritis of the Ankle,” on Tuesday, July 21, at 7 p.m., in classroom 1 on the second floor of the Wright State Physicians Health Center. The session is free and open to the public.
The speaker is Richard T. Laughlin, M.D., chair and professor of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He also is the director of the foot and ankle service at Wright State Physicians Orthopaedics. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and completed fellowships in foot and ankle trauma, reconstruction and infection.
Laughlin will speak about arthrodesis, surgical immobilization of a joint so that the bones grow solidly together; arthroplasty, ankle replacement done to restore the function of a joint; common causes of chronic and acute pain; fusion versus replacement; and signs and symptoms.
