Students can explore career opportunities at Path to Health Professions Day

High school and college students can learn more about careers as doctors, nurses and veterinarians during Path to Health Professions Day on Feb. 19.

Several hundred high school and college students interested in pursuing careers as doctors, nurses, veterinarians or other health professions are expected to converge at Wright State for presentations and tours.

The 13th annual Path to Health Professions Day will take place Monday, Feb. 19, at the Student Union from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Optional tours of campus, research laboratories and the Boonshoft School of Medicine will be offered beginning at 1 p.m.

Encouraged to attend is anyone interested in becoming a physician, dentist, pharmacist, physician assistant, physical therapist, veterinarian, nurse practitioner, psychologist, sports medicine professional or any other health professional. Also welcome are teachers and guidance counselors who wish to learn more about Wright State’s pre-med and pre-professional programs.

“Our hope is that attendees of the event will become more aware of the vast opportunities for careers in health care and how to become more competitive applicants to professional programs,” said Jacqueline Neal, director of the Pre-Health Program and assistant dean for the College of Science and Mathematics.

Besides exploring career opportunities, attendees will learn what classes and activities to choose now to best prepare for their futures. The event will feature panel sessions on the opioid crisis, influenza season, careers in sports medicine, and neuroscience.
