Xenia teacher national finalist

XENIA — Xenia High School science teacher Bill Richey has been selected as one of three finalists in the nation for the Schell Science Teaching Award.

The award recognizes one outstanding classroom teacher who has had a positive impact on his or her students, school and the community through exemplary science teaching.

Richey, a native of Xenia and graduate of Xenia High School, received his undergraduate degree in biology/chemistry and graduate degree in education from Wright State University. He completed summer studies in marine biology at Duke University Marine Laboratory, Beaufort, N.C, and Forfar Field Station, Andros Island, Bahamas. He completed post-graduate work at Miami University, University of Dayton and Wright State University.

Richey has taught chemistry at Xenia High School since 1986.

He and his wife, Barbara, also a Xenia Community Schools teacher, reside in Xenia with their children.
