WSRI joins Ohio team promoting UAS Center and Test Complex at Unmanned Systems 2013

As part of a statewide effort to promote Ohio’s capabilities in unmanned aerial systems, the Wright State Research Institute (WSRI) joined the Dayton Development Coalition this week at the Unmanned Systems 2013 conference in Washington, D.C., in a State of Ohio booth.

Ohio is among 600 exhibitors at the conference, offered each year by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the world’s largest nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to advancing the unmanned systems and robotics community. With more than 100 technical sessions and 8,000 attendees from 45 countries, the conference is the world’s largest in the unmanned systems industry.

“This is a collaborative effort with organizations throughout the region to showcase to an international audience in industry and government the full spectrum of capability Ohio has to offer,” said WSRI Director Jason Parker, Ph.D. “Whether we are talking about the Ohio UAS Center and Test Complex, or about the research and development capabilities of WSRI that support the complex, we are glad to help demonstrate that Ohio is the place to be for unmanned systems.”

The Wright State Research Institute provides modeling and simulation support to the Ohio UAS Center and Test Complex in critical design and development tools to enable efficient, effective flight-testing for unmanned systems. Modeling and simulation is useful for military and commercial customers of the test center in that simulation tools can support range operations, systems development, research/analysis and training.

In its unmanned systems portfolio, the institute also provides test and evaluation for unmanned air vehicles for the Air Force Research Laboratory through its Vigilant Spirit Mobile Test and Evaluation Center (VS-MTEC), as well as human performance research of unmanned systems operators. The research is aimed at improving humans’ ability to control multiple unmanned aerial vehicles and manage mountains of data.

The Ohio Unmanned Aerial Systems Center and Test Complex is a joint venture with Indiana to develop the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) industry in the region by attracting new federal, military and commercial research and testing. Learn more about Ohio UAS efforts at its conference website:
