Mai Nguyen knows what it’s like to adapt to a different world.
Born in Ho Chi Minh City when it was still known as Saigon, Nguyen came to America as an international student at Syracuse University, where she met her husband. The two later got jobs at Wright State University. Her arrival in America meant a long-time immersion in American culture — instability in Vietnam prevented her from returning for 25 years.
