John Rowland, lead custodial services worker, received the 2021 President’s Award for Excellence in Service (Classified) for his hard work and dedication to the university. His colleagues commend his excellence and cite his work as part of the success of custodial services.

Rowland joined Wright State in 2014 and was promoted to lead worker in 2015. His colleagues describe him as an incredibly hard worker who goes out of his way to step up and serve the Wright State community.

“Rowland excels in integrity, is committed to the vision, mission, values and goals of our department,” said Daniel Monaghan, facilities supervisor for custodial services. “He is enthusiastic, skillful, creative, reliable and willing to work.”

Monaghan heavily relies on Rowland’s hard work and contributions to keep custodial services running smoothly. Rowland has taken on all ordering and inventory duties to ensure that everyone on his shift is successful by providing them with all the necessary tools.

“Being the only supervisor on third shift, I need someone who I can rely on, and Rowland is always there when needed with practical solutions to everyday problems,” Monaghan said.

Rowland often steps up to the plate to fill in as a supervisor, train new employees and motivate his colleagues with his positive disposition. He is known to have a never-say-no attitude, which keeps morale high.

Monaghan highly praised Rowland’s overall attitude and work ethic.

“He demonstrates excellence with his integrity, commitment, enthusiasm, creativity, reliability and willingness to work wherever we need him,” Monaghan said. “The department would not be successful without him and his dedication. He has brought 25 years of experience in the trade to Wright State and this has helped us tremendously.”
