High school students can explore Wright State University’s research labs and maker spaces while learning more about opportunities to study in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine during Wright State’s STEMM Experience.
The STEMM Experience takes place on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants should check in at the front entrance of the Student Union on Wright State’s Dayton Campus.
Spots are limited and students should register for the event by Nov. 15 at wright.edu/STEMMexperience.
The event will appeal to high school students interested in learning about college majors and careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
The STEMM Experience allows future students to participate in the kinds of hands-on research and creative activities they will experience as Wright State students.
Participants can customize their experience based on their interests. Hands-on activities include:
- Technology and Engineering in the Automotive Industry
- Applied Science: Properties and Reactions in the Everyday World
- Material Testing and Properties: The Intersection Between Science and Engineering
- The Science of Detecting and Understanding Human Disease
- Scientific Experiments of the Human Brain
- The Central Nervous System
- Adventures in Microscopy: Viewing the Invisible
- Technology in the World Around You
- Data Science and Analytics
- General/Exploratory: Biology and Medicine
- General/Exploratory: Engineering and Technology
- General/Exploratory: Overview of Science
Participants can also learn more about more than 20 STEMM majors and talk with faculty members about their college or career plans. In addition, Wright State students will be on hand to discuss student life, student organizations and other ways to get involved on campus.
Twenty STEMM programs at Wright State will participate in the STEMM Experience: biochemistry and molecular biology, biological sciences, biomedical engineering, chemistry, computer engineering, computer science, environmental science, electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering technology, industrial and systems engineering, information technology and cybersecurity, materials science and engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, medical lab sciences, neuroscience, physics, psychology, public health and statistics (actuarial science).
The STEMM Experience is hosted by the College of Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Science and Mathematics.
