Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has appointed Chillicothe native Chloe Detty to serve as a student trustee on the Wright State University Board of Trustees.
Detty, a Unioto High School graduate and junior management major at Wright State, will serve a two-year term representing the student body on the board, according to a community announcement. She succeeds Lauren Johnson, an accounting major whose term ended at the end of June.
As one of two student trustees, Detty will provide the student perspective on matters before the board and participate in university governance.
“It is an incredible honor and a wonderful opportunity to represent the student perspective while contributing to decisions that will affect the future of the university,” Detty said. “Contributing to initiatives that enhance the student experience and support the success of the university for future Raiders is a top priority for me in my time as student trustee.”
Wright State President Sue Edwards said student trustees play an important role in university decision-making.
“The student voice is not an addition to the work we do at Wright State — it is a part of how we make decisions,” Edwards said. “Our student trustees have consistently strengthened our conversations by bringing forward the experiences, ideas and priorities of the students we serve. Chloe has demonstrated a genuine commitment to serving her fellow students, and I look forward to the insight and energy she will bring to this important role.”
Campus leadership experience
Detty, who expects to graduate in 2028, is a Presidential Scholar and President’s Ambassador, representing Wright State and the Office of the President at university events and meetings.
Her campus involvement includes service on the Dean’s Circle for the College of Science and Mathematics, the Honors Committee and the Health and Wellness Task Force. She also served as internal director of Miracle Makers, a student organization that raises funds for Dayton Children’s Hospital, and is scheduled to serve as external vice president of the Pre-Law Society this fall.
Detty said her experience in Wright State’s Student Government Association had a significant impact on her academic and career goals.
As policy administrator during the 2025-26 academic year, she wrote resolutions, revised the student government constitution and organized student leadership elections.
Interest in government and policy
Detty, who will serve as student government chief of staff during the 2026-27 academic year, said her involvement with university leadership inspired her to seek the student trustee position.
“Through my involvement with the Student Government Association, I witnessed the accomplishments that are possible through student and university leadership collaboration,” she said. “Those experiences fostered a deep appreciation for the importance of shared governance, which ultimately inspired me to pursue the role of student trustee.”
