May the force be with you

The Wright State University Student Union Apollo Room was converted into an intergalactic battlefield on Feb. 3 for the first “Star Wars” game.

Over 70 students participated in a “capture-the-flag-style game” that was hosted by the Astronomical Collaborations Club at Wright State. Participants used foam lightsabers to tag opponents while flashing lights and “Star Wars” music helped students feel like they had been transported to a galaxy far, far away.

“I had a lot of fun,” said Rahul Shah, a senior biological sciences major who met new friends on the battlefield. “I wouldn’t have met them if I didn’t come to this event.”

Brad Kerry, a graduate social and applied economics student, helped plan the event. He said it was a priority for his club to make the game open to all students. “We tried very hard to make this accessible to everyone,” he said.

Organizers asked participants to donate nonperishable food items for the Raider Food Pantry to play in the game.

Kerry said he hopes the Astronomical Collaboration Club will continue the game in the spring and hopefully make it an annual campus event.

“We are focused on creating a really cool place for everyone to hang out,” said Kerry.
