Wright State University psychology major Izabella Schenck had two minutes to gather as many store items as she could after winning the Raider Landing Shopping Spree on Sept. 11.
“I was so nervous,” she said.
A few weeks ago, Schenck stopped by a sidewalk sale at Raider Landing during its grand reopening celebration in 182 Student Union. A sign advertising the shopping spree caught her attention, and while Schenck never thought she had a chance at winning, she entered anyway, again and again.
“I wondered if I entered every day if it would make a difference,” said Schenck.
Schenck’s persistence paid off. She was at El Toro Restaurant when she received an Instagram message saying she was selected for the shopping spree.
“I was so excited,” she said. “I literally started clapping in the restaurant.”
The staff at Raider Landing offered to come in and help with the shopping spree on their days off so they could witness the excitement.
“This is our first shopping spree event at Wright State, so we are all excited,” said Renee Pennachio, the campus store’s manager.
Everything but electronics was up for grabs in the store, and Schenck could not select duplicate items. She managed to gather 29 items totaling $1,183.78 in store merchandise.
“I would’ve been fine if I would’ve got five things, but I’m grateful to get 29 things,” said Schenck.
