Picture-perfect Homecoming

The sights, sounds, glitz and glamour of Wright State University’s Homecoming events transported students, faculty, staff and alumni all the way back to the roaring ’20s.

The annual chili cookoff, both a men’s and a women’s basketball game, the Alumni Achievement Awards, Paint and Sip and a Homecoming Dance highlighted Wright State’s packed Homecoming week on the Dayton Campus Feb. 14–17. Homecoming Week was organized by the Wright State Alumni Association, Wright State University and Wright State student organizations.

“I like coming back for Homecoming and seeing friends,” said Dexter Bailey, a 2005 Wright State graduate who attended the Homecoming Kickoff event in the Student Union Atrium on Feb. 14.

Organizers say homecoming is about connections—to one another and to Wright State. This year’s events were a chance to celebrate the Raider spirit that connects us all.

“I actually like the events that we have going on,” said Brandon Orr, a first-year mechanical engineering major. “I’ve never been more social than I am right now.”

It is the second year since Wright State pivoted Homecoming Week from the fall to the Spring Semester, aligning it with Wright State men’s and women’s basketball games while also allowing more student organizations to participate in activities.

“Wright State is a really big basketball school,” said Homecoming queen Alexi Ricker, a senior organizational leadership major. “If we’re going to celebrate we’re going to celebrate right and go to a basketball game.”
