Wright State’s College of Science and Mathematics celebrates achievements of first-year students

More than 100 Wright State University students and their families gathered in the Student Union Atrium to celebrate a major milestone: completing their first year in the College of Science and Mathematics.

Hosted by the college, the event recognized the hard work and perseverance of first-year students with food, prizes, games and photo opportunities. Four students were also randomly awarded $500 scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year.

“We are here to celebrate the achievements of our first-year students,” said Ayşe Şahin, Ph.D., dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. “They’ve completed two semesters of rigorous science and mathematics training with us, and they’ve worked hard and learned a lot.”

The event gave students an opportunity to socialize with peers and mingle with faculty.

First-year neuroscience major Anmol Saini said he appreciates the sense of community he’s experienced since arriving at Wright State.

“It’s more personalized, you get to connect better with other people,” said Saini. “It’s really uplifting.”

Şahin hopes the celebration will inspire other Wright State colleges to recognize first-year students in a similar way.

“I’m really hope that the rest of the colleges will be inspired to do the same,” she said.
