Wright State Lake Campus to add more student housing

Wright State University will see housing options grow at its Lake Campus in Celina as a group doubles the size of on-campus housing.

The Western Ohio Educational Foundation, or WOEF, is finalizing plans for a $1.7 million, 10,000-square-foot addition to Knapke Villa, a development adjacent to the campus along Grand Lake St. Mary’s. Once completed in fall 2014, it would double the capacity of students who could be housed there to 64, said Julie Miller, development officer at WOEF.

The building will be paid for through the sale of tax-exempt revenue bonds supported by Mercer County commissioners and the People’s Bank Co. of Coldwater.

The fully furnished apartments, which include furniture and utilities, cater to a changing demographic of students at the campus, Miller said. More people are enrolling in the school’s eight four-year degree programs and two graduate degrees, and with average commutes at an hour for students, many don’t want to drive.
