Exploring how hip-hop music can be an alternate form of education and how it is both culturally relevant and empowering to urban youth has been the focus of research by a former Middletown resident who was recognized by his alma mater.
Darius Prier, who is now an assistant professor in the School of Education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, was recently named Alumnus of the Year for the Department of Urban Affairs and Geography at Wright State University where a reception was held in his honor.
“It was an honor and a privilege to have been selected,” he said. “I was pleasantly surprised that the work I do fit into the criteria that they established.”
