Locals react to fall of Gadhafi’s rule in Libya

Vaughn Shannon, assistant professor of political science with Wright State University, said the Arabic-speaking world is closely watching the events unfold in Libya, and citizens of other oppressed countries in the Middle East may be inspired to rise up against those who oppress them.

“The victory itself, presuming it continues the way it’s going, might reinvigorate that Arab Spring in places like Syria,” Shannon said. “Victory inspires imitation. … A lot of people are happy and excited about the prospect of actually achieving change in a region that for decades resisted change and democracy.”
