Medical school department chair awarded Mastership status by American College of Physicians

Glen Solomon is chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Neurology at the Boonshoft School of Medicine.

Glen Solomon, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Neurology at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, has been awarded Mastership status by the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internists.

Solomon is a prolific researcher, writer, reviewer and editor. He is the co-author of two textbooks on headache medicine and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and 35 book chapters on the subjects of headaches and migraines. Solomon is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Headache.

He has taught more than 100 grand rounds and invited lectures and served as the program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Wright State University and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He has served as the director for the Headache Medicine Fellowship Program at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Solomon has been featured in “Best Doctors in America,” “Who’s Who in the World,” “Who’s Who in the Midwest,” “Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders” and “Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.” He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

Election to Mastership recognizes outstanding and extraordinary career accomplishments. Masters must have made a notable contribution to medicine. This includes but is not limited to teaching; outstanding work in clinical medicine (research or practice); contributions to preventive medicine; improvements in the delivery of health care; or contributions to medical literature.

According to ACP bylaws, Masters are elected “on account of personal character, positions of honor, contributions toward furthering the purposes of the ACP, eminence in practice or in medical research or other attainments in science or in the art of medicine.” ACP activities are also taken into consideration for all candidates. This includes service to the ACP in an official capacity, participation in chapter activities and involvement in the development of ACP products and educational programs. Volunteer and community service is also taken into consideration.

The American College of Physicians is the largest medical specialty organization in the United States with members in more than 145 countries worldwide. ACP membership includes 159,000 internal medicine physicians, related subspecialists and medical students. Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness.
