- Written by William Inge, the play won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play and the Tony Award for Best Director.
- “Picnic” tells the story of Madge and Hal, who meet and fall in love as their rural, Kansas town prepares for its Labor Day picnic.
- Director Marya Spring Cordes said that “Picnic” represents American realism and nostalgia at its best.
- Actor Paul Newman made his Broadway debut in the original 1953 cast of “Picnic.”
- The 1955 film version of the play starred William Holden and Kim Novak.
- Performances of “Picnic” continue through Sunday, February 27.
