The Wright State University human resources club has been awarded the 2010-2011 Superior Merit Award by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). This award recognizes our student chapter’s achievements and commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to our students.
Our organization was busy accomplishing objectives throughout the year to achieve this award. Some of the goals met this year included:
- Created a Management by Objectives statement with specific chapter goals and objectives for the year.
- Created a recruiting plan for the chapter.
- Created a budget that included a fundraising plan for the year.
- Sponsored student chapter meetings on and off campus.
- Maintained a student chapter website and created a social networking page.
- Published student chapter newsletters to keep members updated.
- Sponsored corporate guest speakers covering a variety of subjects related to HR.
- Attended the annual Ohio SHRM Conference.
- Created and participated in internships, mentoring and career development.
- Provided company visits and job-shadow opportunities.
- Organized a mentoring program.
- Published a student chapter resume book for the professional chapter.
- Participated in community project to benefit the American Cancer Society.
- Promoted careers in HR to local high school students.
- Promoted the value of HR certification via exam study groups and members sitting for the exam.
SHRM has more than 450 active student chapters. By achieving this award, our chapter distinguishes itself as an outstanding organization dedicated to serving the needs of our members and to the advancement of the human resource management profession.
