
Skurka has hiked through eight national parks, across several mountain ranges, and the length of the Yukon.
Andrew Skurka, National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year, will be at the Wright State University Student Union on Friday, August 12 to talk about his experience hiking solo from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Skurka will also lead a backpacking clinic for aspiring hikers.
Skurka is famous for having traversed 4,679 miles of Alaskan and Canadian wilderness, hiking through eight national parks, several mountain ranges, and the length of the Yukon. At one point during his journey, he went 650 miles without crossing a road and 24 days without seeing another person.
Skurka will speak about his Alaskan adventure at Memorial Hall in downtown Dayton on Thursday night, then appear at Wright State’s Apollo Room on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. to begin his program.
