Women's volleyball players will wear special pink shirts for warmups in support of Velinga's recovery.
The Wright State Athletic Department will host a weekend of events Sept. 16-17 centered around Raider volleyball matches to help former WSU student-athlete Andrea (Voss) Vellinga.
Vellinga, who played for the Raiders from 1999-2002, was critically injured in the stage collapse that took place at the Indiana State Fair on August 13.
On Friday night, Sept. 16, as the Raiders host Youngstown State at 6 p.m. in the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, tables will be set up for information and sales of pink T-shirts and ribbons in support of Vellinga. The team will wear the T-shirts “For the Love of Andrea” during warm-ups and the ribbons in their hair during the match.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, as WSU hosts Cleveland State at 4 p.m., former volleyball players will run a 50/50 raffle for Vellinga and/or take donations to help offset the medical costs of her treatment. After the match, the department will host a small reception for the volleyball alumni.
At approximately 7:15-7:30 p.m., the alumni will be at gate #3 on the Nutter Center concourse. They will be taking donations and selling T-shirts for a walk through campus that will begin at about 8:30 p.m. and also feature the current volleyball team. The walk, to take additional donations, is free and open to the public.
