The Student Concern Committee received the 2019 Outstanding Collaborative Units Award for its efforts to assist and provided needed support for students.
The committee is a multidisciplinary team that meets weekly to address concerns about students in crisis or students experiencing some manner of difficulty and connect them to resources as appropriate.
The committee is made up of members from Academic Advising, Counseling and Wellness Services, Community Standards and Student Conduct, Disability Services, Equity and Inclusion, RaiderConnect, Residence Life and Housing, Student Advocacy And Wellness, University Center for International Education, Veteran and Military Center, Wright State Police, Student Success and the Ombudsperson’s Office.
Thanks to the Student Concern Committee, innovative intervention strategies are designed for students in need, resources are shared and communication is increased. The collaborative effort of so many professional staff has resulted in the retention and success of upwards of 100 students each year.
“Creativity, empathy, compassion, frustration, and resolve are all expressed by a dedicated group of WSU employees working together to ensure that a student’s well-being is the most important outcome,” said one member of the Student Concern Committee. “In this room our student’s humanity is more important than their student status — and perhaps that is why it is so special and rewarding.”
