The Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine announced two leadership appointments.
Shehzad Saeed, M.D., professor of pediatrics, has been appointed chair of pediatrics at the Boonshoft School of Medicine and vice president at Dayton Children’s.
Laurie Bankston, M.D., medical director of Wright State Physicians Family Medicine, was appointed interim associate dean for medical education at the Boonshoft School of Medicine.
About Shehzad Saeed
As chair of pediatrics, Saeed will oversee academic, research and innovation programs at Dayton Children’s, including the Wright State University–Wright-Patterson Air Force Base integrated pediatric residency and fellowships in pediatric hospital medicine and pediatric emergency medicine along with clerkship and elective rotations for Boonshoft School of Medicine medical students.
Saeed previously served as associate chief medical officer for medical specialties, physician chief of clinical excellence and physician lead for patient and family experience at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
He joined the faculty at the Boonshoft School of Medicine in 2016.
Saeed completed his medical school education at Dow Medical College at the University of Karachi in Pakistan. He completed an internship and residency in general pediatrics at the University of Chicago Hospital, followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the Floating Hospital for Children, New England Medical Center, Tufts University in Boston.
A nationally known pediatric gastroenterologist, Saeed serves as the clinical director for ImproveCareNow, an international quality improvement collaborative with more than 100 centers in the United States, Europe (Belgium) and the Middle East (Qatar) that aims to improve the health and care of children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease.
Before joining Dayton Children’s, Saeed served at the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
About Laurie Bankston
Bankston has practiced family medicine in southwest Ohio for 25 years since graduating with her medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine in 1999.
Before joining Wright State Physicians in January, Bankston served as medical director of primary care quality at the Kettering Physicians Network and medical director of the Kettering Health Accountable Care Organization.
She led quality improvement efforts for more than 150,000 patients across the region. She is also experienced in leading complex cross-functional teams.
In addition to her M.D. degree, Bankston received her master’s degree in biology from Wright State.
She completed a family medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati.
