Wright State University’s Department of Public Safety hosted the third annual Trunk or Treat event.
Twenty-seven Wright State and community organizations decorated vehicles and passed out candy to trick-or-treaters, including Wright State athletic teams, the Student Government Association, Dunbar Library, Wright State Police Department, Fairborn Fire Department, Ohio State Patrol, Huber Heights police, Dayton police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
“I definitely enjoy events like these,” said Chad Oleyar, Wright State police sergeant. “We are here for the kids today.”
Almost 400 Mini University preschoolers and their parents made the short walk to participate in the event.
“I think it’s a great way to get all of the community out,” said Hannah Layton, a sophomore marketing major who participated with her sorority sisters. “It just brings everyone happiness.”
The Trunk or Treat event is part of an ongoing relationship between Mini University and Wright State police officers, who often read books to children at the school. The department wanted to organize a fun activity for the kids and allow them to interact with Wright State students and public safety staff.
“It’s a very safe and fun event,” said Kurt Holden, director of public safety, who dressed up as Wolverine and invited his family to pass out candy. “We are having a blast.”
