Wright State video producer earns Regional Emmy and state journalism award

Kris Sproles, Wright State video content producer, won a Regional Emmy and a state journalism award.

Kris Sproles, video content producer in Wright State University’s Office of University Communications and Marketing, earned two professional awards for his outstanding storytelling and visual journalism: a Regional Emmy and a state journalism award.

Sproles received the Emmy for Multimedia Journalist – Solo Storyteller from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The chapter includes members from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.

The multimedia journalist award recognizes excellence by a single, cross-disciplinary individual who serves as a photojournalist, editor and writer for a single or multi-part video story or topic intended for a news audience.

The award recognized Sproles’ work on stories he produced for the Wright State Newsroom, including:

• Crash course
• Delicious bytes and beats
• Medical students conduct Teddy Bear Hospital at Mini University
• Athletics partners with Habitat for Humanity
• Calamityville hosts large-scale medical training
• Wright State hosts Air Force Marathon 5K and Expo

This is the third consecutive year Sproles received a Regional Emmy. The previous two years, he won the award for video essayist.

He also received the second-place award for Best Videographer in the Digital Media/Freelance category in the 2026 Ohio’s Best Journalism Contest.

The award honors the best visual storyteller demonstrating excellence in online videography in spot news, general assignment or specialty reporting.

The statewide journalism contest was sponsored by the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists and included entries from media outlets and universities across Ohio.
