CELINA — In case you weren’t aware, it’s “Shark Week” on Discovery Channel. The network’s 25th year with a dedicated weeklong focus on shark-themed programs began its run Sunday. On Monday, a local expert helped shed some light on one of the largest carnivores to ever roam the open seas.
Chuck Ciampaglio, an associate professor of earth and environmental sciences at Wright State University-Lake Campus in Celina, was not only featured in the prime time broadcast of “Sharkzilla,” he was a scientific consultant on the project.
Ciampaglio, who has a doctorate degree in paleontology, is a prehistoric shark expert who has studied megalodon, the prehistoric shark that is the subject of the episode.
“I got to read the script before it went to final narration. I kind of know what’s in it,” Ciampaglio said. “I’ve only seen five minutes or so. It looks really good. The graphics look really neat.”
