Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Ellen Miller, Ricky Peters and Lauren Johnson to the Wright State University Board of Trustees.
“The appointees from Gov. DeWine possess expertise in areas of strategic importance to the university,” said Tom Gunlock, chair of the Board of Trustees. “We sincerely appreciate the governor’s careful selection of appointees with leadership experience in both health care and defense industries.”
Wright State President Sue Edwards echoed Gunlock’s enthusiasm for the governor’s appointments.
“I am very thankful to Gov. DeWine for appointing two strong community leaders from the Dayton region to the Board of Trustees at such an exciting time for the university,” Edwards said.
Ellen Miller
Ellen Miller, associate vice president of community relations for the CareSource Foundation, was appointed for a nine-year term ending June 30, 2033, succeeding Marty Grunder.
In her role at CareSource, Miller oversees the annual allocation of $3.5 million for the corporation’s foundation. She also leads the company’s community relations efforts and initiatives in Ohio and its other established and emerging markets.
Before joining CareSource in 2022, Miller was the director of development at Altafiber, where she was responsible for establishing and increasing market share. She also spent more than 16 years at Fifth Third Bank where she served in multiple capacities and areas, including risk management.
Miller is an active leader in the Dayton community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Dayton, the Archbishop Alter High School Board and the Levitt Pavilion Board of Trustees.
A lifetime Daytonian, Miller holds a degree in business administration and finance from the University of Dayton. She resides in the area with her husband, Adam, and their three children.
Ricky Peters
Ricky Peters, a 1984 Wright State graduate and a national trustee of the university, was appointed for a term that ends June 30, 2027, succeeding Bruce Langos.
Peters has served as a national trustee on the Board of Trustees since 2020. He is vice chair of the Special Committee on Aerospace and Defense and a member of the Finance, Audit, Governance and Compliance Committee, the Special Committee on Medicine and Health, and the Special Committee on Athletics and Campus Recreation.
Peters is the chief strategy officer of Tenet3, a Dayton cyber security company. He is responsible for working with the company’s leadership team to develop and implement the company’s vision and help navigate the path forward.
Before joining Tenet3, he served as the CEO of Tangram Flex, a Dayton software company, and the CEO of Ascend Innovations, a joint venture between the Kettering Health Network, Premier Health and Dayton Children’s Hospital.
He previously served for 35 years as a civilian leader in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 2015 as the executive director of the Air Force Research Laboratory. He was responsible for leading a workforce of 10,000 and guiding the Air Force’s $2.5 billion science and technology program and an additional $2.75 billion in customer-funded research.
Peters graduated from Wright State in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering. He also received an associate degree in mechanical engineering from Sinclair Community College and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton.
A native of New Lebanon, Peters resides in Brookville with his wife, Sheri, who earned a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Wright State.
Lauren Johnson
Wright State accountancy major Lauren Johnson was appointed as a student trustee for a term ending June 30, 2026, succeeding Chris Jenkins.
She is one of two student members on the Board of Trustees. Student trustees serve as a voice of the student body in university matters.
Johnson, a second-year student who expects to graduate in 2026, is a Presidential Scholar and a President’s Ambassador. She serves as president of the Raj Soin College of Business Dean’s Student Advisory Board and is a member of the Finance and Human Resource clubs. In addition to holding several on-campus jobs, she is an intern for the Division of Financial Operations.
Johnson is from Troy, Ohio, and graduated from Milton-Union High School in 2023.
The Wright State Board of Trustees will next convene on Sept. 12 and 13 in the Endeavour Room in the Student Union on the Dayton Campus.
