WYSO Public Radio featured Wright State research on the significant economic impact of untreated mental illness in the greater Dayton region. The interviews highlighted findings from the Economic Impact of Behavioral Health in the Greater Dayton Region study, published by Wright State University, the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association and OneMorning.
Thomas Traynor, Ph.D., professor emeritus of economics in the Raj Soin College of Business, conducted the study. He explained how untreated mental illness costs the region nearly $30 billion every year and shared why greater investment in behavioral health is essential to improving community well-being and economic stability.
Barbara Marsh, D.S.W., director of Counseling and Wellness Services at Wright State, discussed steps employers can take to support their workforce, reduce the burden of untreated mental illness and strengthen local businesses.
