Wright State University’s campus came alive with flashing lights, emergency vehicles and interactive activities as students, faculty and staff gathered for the second Campus Safety Day on Oct. 15.
Held on the Quad, the event brought together over 30 area agencies to showcase the resources, services and partnerships that help keep the campus and surrounding communities safe.
“I just learned how to put a breathing tube down somebody’s throat,” said Bella Santiago, a first-year student majoring in biological sciences. “It was really cool.”
Attendees connected with local first responders, explored emergency vehicles and learned more about campus safety and support resources in a fun, welcoming environment.
The afternoon featured a K-9 demonstration, interactive games, a visit from the MedFlight helicopter flight crew, giveaways, food trucks, free ice cream and live music from Ell ‘n’ Murrell. Participants also enjoyed the Glazed and Confused Challenge, a donut-eating contest that added some friendly competition to the festivities.
“It’s very good to interact with other agencies and let the students here at Wright State University know there are opportunities within the police department other than being a police officer on patrol,” said Tony Murphy, a recruitment administrator for the Dayton Police Department.
Campus Safety Day continued into the evening with Campus Safety After Dark, featuring Popcorn with the Police and a screening of “Project Hail Mary” in the Student Union Atrium, hosted by Wright State’s Division of Campus Safety and Student Government Association.
