More than 50 acres of land is expected to be transferred from the city of Fairborn to Wright State University — property that the university has been using for Calamityville the last four-plus years.
After years of cleanup, site work and satisfying details to agreements, WSU will finally take ownership of the property when official documents are signed today by Fairborn and university representatives.
A land transfer ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the site, 506 E. Xenia Drive. WSU has leased the property from the city for Calamityville, which opened in May 2010, Fairborn City Manager Deborah McDonnell said.
“We’ve accomplished our goal for the city, which was to find an adaptive reuse for an old industrial site,” McDonnell said. “This helps stimulate growth in that area, and it eliminates a blight from downtown. It makes it a viable property once again.”
