Wright State grad creates sets for television, film

Excerpt

When his fourth-grade teacher told him his drawings were “just scribbles,” Martin Fahrer stopped making art. But when his Wright State University professor, Joe Tilford, insisted he learn to draw if he wanted to become a stage designer, he reconsidered and signed up for art classes.

That decision turned out to be a wise one: not only did Fahrer overcome his fear of drawing, but went on to become a nationally recognized art director and set designer. He’s captured six Daytime Emmys — including two this year.

Farher is in the news at the moment for his work on both NBC’s “Peter Pan Live” — which originally aired on Dec. 4 and can now be seen online — and the movie, “Annie,” which opens in theaters around the nation Dec. 19.
