Wright State University’s newest police officer is from France, is 13 months old and has a nose for police work. Jenkka is a Belgian Malinois and her first day on the job was Nov. 16.
Jenkka is Wright State’s third K-9 officer. She replaced Tito, who retired in 2015. The Police Department’s other active K-9 officer is Galli, also a Belgian Malinois.
Officer Nelda Mattison is Jenkka’s handler and has completed extensive training at Storm Dog K-9 Training in Columbus, where they both worked on scent detection and bonding.
Mattison is approaching her fifth year with the Wright State Police Department. This is her first time working as a K-9 handler.
