Suiting up for success

Wright State students and first-year alumni can get discounts on business clothing and professional headshots at the JC Penney Suit Up event on Sept. 30.

Wright State students and first-year alumni can learn how to dress for success on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at JC Penney at the Fairfield Commons Mall.

The event is meant to help students prepare for job and graduate school interviews, career networking events and the Wright State Career Fair on Oct. 16.

The JC Penney Suit Up event is for any Wright State student who is in need of professional career apparel. Each student who attends will receive a 40 percent off coupon for career-related clothing, such as suits, dresses, sport coats, dress pants, shoes and accessories.

While at the event, students can talk with hair stylists and makeup artists to learn about appropriate hair and makeup choices for a professional or career environment.

A professional headshot portrait studio will also be available for students for $29.99. Students are encouraged to use the photos for a LinkedIn profile or other professional uses.

Debbie Lamp, associate director of student activities, said the suit up event is an opportunity for students to prepare for the Career Fair in an environment where professionals are available for one-on-one conversations and to answer questions.

“There will be people just there to dote on the students, just doting on students to make sure they get what they need,” she said.

JC Penny will only be open to those attending the suit up event. Students should enter the store through the door that is close to Melt at the Fairfield Commons Mall.

Students of all ages and levels are encouraged to attend. The event is also open to first-year alumni.

“It’s not just for seniors,” Lamp said. “Anybody that’s intending to go to the Career Fair, which is a great place to find out about internship opportunities, so you could be a sophomore or a junior looking at graduate school interviews. Even if you just need a suit for Sunday church, you can come.”
