That effort has already resulted in millions of dollars in research contracts. “Advancing knowledge is fundamental to what we do,” Hopkins said. “We are engaging with companies to help solve problems and grow their business.”
Colleges and universities aren’t just leveraging research for economic reasons. Community colleges like Sinclair have become essential for training a work force to meet the evolving needs of current and prospective businesses. Sinclair trains a majority of the communities firefighters and emergency personnel and provides work force education and retraining to thousands each year.
