Wright State University’s Athletic Training Education program is gearing up for another successful Sports Medicine Workshop Friday, Oct. 14.
Students from across the Dayton region have signed up for a chance to learn how sports medicine is taught at Wright State, specifically athletic training.
“This is our primary recruiting tool. It gives the prospective students a great look at what we do and what they’ll get to learn,” said Tony Ortiz, director of athletic training education. “It also gives them a good look at what else they can do here in other related fields.”
Already booked up for this workshop, Ortiz says it can be hard to snag a slot for the event because of the uniqueness of the student-based experience and the hands-on approach in practice sessions and presentations.
“We utilize cadavers and the instruction in the workshop is all done by students already in the program,” said Ortiz. “It gives them a chance to mingle with students who’ve been in the program.”
Topics included in Friday’s workshop include basic taping and bandaging, basic anatomy, internships in athletic training, emergency response, functional rehabilitation and more.
Wright State Physicians and Premier Hospitals sponsor the event, which includes free lunch and a T-shirt in addition to the instruction.
