Jennie Buckwalter, assistant dean for community and student engagement at Wright State University’s College of Liberal Arts, is among the 2018 class of Top 25 Women to Watch as selected by the Dayton Better Business Bureau’s Women in Business Networking program.

Buckwalter joined the faculty of Wright State University in 2002 as an adjunct of Spanish and has since been promoted to senior lecturer. In 2005, she accepted the position of assistant director of development for the College of Liberal Arts and in 2013 was promoted to her current position.

Buckwalter directs initiatives to engage with college alumni and donors, organizes important college events, oversees scholarship initiatives, spearheads communications, collaborates on internship activity and manages a professional mentoring program. She also oversees the university’s premier arts fundraiser, ArtsGala, which has raised over $2.5 million in fine and performing arts scholarships since 2000.

The Top 25 Women to Watch signature event embodies one of the mission tenets of WiBN to help women build careers and personal success through recognition for their work and service to their community. The WiBN community of women strives to embrace the power of connection by helping each other get from where they are in their businesses or careers to where they want to go.

Nine Wright State alumni were also named to the 2018 class.

They include Lisa Balster, with Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton; Kim Bramlage, with Five Rivers Health Centers; Tina Koumoutsos, with NHP of Springfield; Alexis Larsen, with the Dayton Art Institute; Kate McEwen, with the Lorenz Corporation; Emily von Stuckrad Smolinski, with Historic Plaza Theatre; Kate Vriner, with Sunbelt Business Advisors of Southwest Ohio; Sarah Williams, with Hannah’s Treasure Chest; and Laura Woeste, with the Downtown Dayton Partnership.

“This year’s class of nominees is exceptional — highly accomplished leaders and respected in their fields,” said Melissa Cutcher, vice president of leadership and development for BBB serving Dayton and the Miami Valley. “They are women who are changing Dayton.”
