Boonshoft School of Medicine Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society to host a Day of Caring 2013 pancake brunch on Feb. 24

Medical students from the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society are hosting a Day of Caring 2013 brunch site in White Hall from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 24, on Wright State’s campus.

The cost is $6 per person. All of the proceeds from the pancake breakfast will be donated to the Greene County food and housing coalitions.

Day of Caring 365, a nonprofit local organization, supports the homeless and the hungry. The organization coordinates with schools, businesses, churches and cultural groups to host a regional pancake brunch on the last Sunday in February.

This year, medical students from the Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Rho Sigma, a national social and community service organization, wanted to help the hungry and homeless of the greater Dayton area by hosting a Day of Caring brunch site.

“The profession of medicine is rooted in service,” said Ralla Shrit, a second-year medical student and president of the Wright State chapter of Phi Rho Sigma. “We are thrilled to serve as a host site for the Day of Caring 2013 brunch. In today’s economy, many people rely on social programs for their basic needs.”
