Researchers, engineers and orthopaedic clinicians will meet Thursday, June 2, at Wright State University to exchange ideas, foster innovation in orthopaedic devices and spur economic development in Ohio.
An open forum at the event, to be held in Room 156 of the Student Union, is designed to create strong academic and industry partnerships within the state and push the best ideas into the marketplace.
More than 700,000 primary total hip and knee replacements are performed each year in the United States, and demand for the surgery is expected to double in the next 10 years, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
By 2030, there are expected to be 572,000 total hip replacements alone and 3.4 million total knee replacements.
Invited to participate at the Wright State event are medical students, residents and fellows, biomedical engineering students at all levels, students from biomedical sciences and advisors.
