Sarah Cicora is known for her passion, leadership, compassion and knowledge in advising students while helping to meet their needs.
Cicora has served as an academic adviser in the Department of Psychology for three years, exemplifying an incomparable empathy, enthusiasm and knowledge that lead students to a better understanding of themselves and the academic road ahead.
She has developed and launched the Psychology Admission Reception for newly admitted majors and has received positive feedback from students. She also started an effort to repurpose a room as a study center for undergraduates called the Psychology Student Success Center. Additionally, she has increased the Department of Psychology student population by promoting it in local high schools.
As a trained clinical mental health counselor, Cicora brings a valuable skillset needed to work with students from all walks of life.
“These students find an adviser who cares enough to go the extra mile to ensure that they’re on the right track,” said Patricia Schiml, research professor in the Department of Psychology. “I know personally of several students grappling with problems ranging from depression, learning disabilities, financial stresses to family conflict for whom Sarah provided information on where to find help.”
Students feel comfortable sharing their life with Cicora, who responds with openness and advice.
“To some, they may think she’s just doing her job, but to me she’s my co-captain. She helped me construct an academic support system that I will always be grateful for and indebted to,” said a student who Cicora advised. “I graduate soon, and I doubt there will ever be a day that I’m not grateful for the patience and care she’s shown me. … It’s the people like her that I’ve met at Wright State that make me proud to be a Raider.”
