Wright State University received a donation of 1,000 face masks from a Chinese business organization based in Cincinnati.
Leo Chan, executive director of the Midwest USA Chinese Chamber of Commerce, made the donation after talking to William Holmes, WSU’s associate vice provost for international affairs.
The university’s Center for International Education joined the chamber last year.
Chan was able to get the masks from partners in China after Holmes asked him where the university could purchase them.
“He even offered to drive the masks up to Wright State from Cincinnati,” said Holmes. “It highlights what relationships can do for us in these times.”
Of the 1,000 masks donated, 250 were earmarked for international students, UCIE staff and study abroad advisees. The other 750 masks will go to students, faculty and staff upon request.
“It’s time for us to give back now that we’re able to source these PPE supplies from China,” Chan said.
He delivered the masks to Holmes on April 30.
